Peoples of the world
Peoples of the world is a series of quilts – molas of the type made by the Guna people of Panamá – portraying people in traditional dress from across the globe.
Made by Japanese artist Fumiko Nakayama before her retirement in 2023, molas from the series hang in labs and centres supported by Community Jameel.
An inspiration to a generation of Japanese artists working with molas, Mrs Nakayama’s work has been exhibited at Pour l’Amour du Fil in 2015 in Nantes, France, and in a major retrospective at the 2018 Tokyo Quilt Festival in Japan.
