As part of the World Health Organisation (WHO)'s 75th anniversary programme, the Jameel Arts & Health Lab launches Healing Arts Arabia, a Saudi-led regional initiative to advocate for improved physical, mental and social health through the arts. Healing Arts Arabia launch week takes place between 22-26 October 2023 and is being spearheaded by the JAHL in collaboration with the WHO and Aeon Collective, in partnership with the G20 Global Innovation Hub.
The multi-day activation incorporates events in Riyadh and Jeddah and include an arts and health 'research to policy' roundtable hosted by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health, featuring Dr Muhammad Alabdulaali, assistant minister of health, Christopher Bailey, arts & health lead at WHO, and Princess Mashael bin Saud Al-Shalan, co-founder of Aeon Collective.
The programme also includes an arts, health and climate panel hosted by Aeon Collective, a research meeting hosted by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology and special tours of Hayy Jameel as well as the Islamic art-inspired International Medical Centre in Jeddah with architect, Dr Sami Angawi.
Healing Arts Arabia is a project under the auspices of the global Healing Arts initiative by the Jameel Arts & Health Lab in collaboration with the WHO, NYU Steinhardt, Community Jameel and Culturunners.
