The Jameel C40 Urban Planning Climate Labs are hosting a national convening on mainstreaming climate action in Indian cities on 18-20 June 2025 in Chennai, India.
The three-day event brings together city leaders, technical experts and climate practitioners to advance collaborative, practical approaches to urban climate action.
Many Indian cities, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai, are already showing strong climate leadership with inclusive, science-based climate action plans.
As they shift from planning to implementation, the primary challenge now is making climate action part of everyday city systems and embedding it into how cities plan, budget and govern.
Policymakers, practitioners and experts explore how to make climate action a core part of city operations, helping to accelerate the move toward low-carbon, resilient, and inclusive urban futures.
The first two days consist of closed-door technical sessions, which focus on peer learning, problem-solving and strategic planning.
The Jameel C40 Cohort of City Practitioners will be included in those two days, expanding representation to Delhi and Amman.
The final day opens to a wider public audience for discussions on climate budgeting, urban governance and integrated planning, during which the Jameel C40 Urban Planning Climate Labs showcase Chennai’s most recent climate change risk assessment (CCRA).
Carried out in partnership with the Urban Management Centre, the CCRA will help shape the next phase of the Labs' efforts, marking a move from assessment to concrete, climate-smart strategies for Chennai’s future.
