FAO hosts second ‘Drylands summer school' in Kenya.

Supported by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) G20 Global Land Initiative and Community Jameel, the second 'Drylands summer school' aims to train a community of experts on building and managing more resilient drylands.

The agenda includes a session on monitoring drylands facilitated by Guyo Roba, head of the Jameel Observatory for Food Security Early Action, based at the International Institute for Livestock Research (ILRI) in Kenya.

Convened by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation's (FAO) Working Group on Dryland Forests and Agrosilvopastoral Systems, dryland foresters and silvopastoral practitioners, as well as planners and policymakers, come together to improve their current and planned actions in drylands and rangelands, and deepen their knowledge on how to create contextual solutions to address the key issues facing agrosilvopastoral systems.

Over the course of four days, representatives from research institutes and universities facilitate group work sessions, case study presentations and a field trip to Tiva Woodland, a sub-centre of the Kitui Dryland Eco-Regional Research Programme.
