The Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL) is pleased to welcome the University of Sharjah (UOS) as an Affiliate Member of J-WEL’s Higher Education Collaborative, making UOS the first Middle Eastern university to formally join J-WEL. The membership signing ceremony was held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge on September 26, 2018.
UOS is an Emirati private national university and is one of the largest universities in the United Arab Emirates, with over 10,000 students, 14 colleges, and an offering of 99 programs at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, doctoral, and diploma levels.
Higher Education @ J-WEL, led by Faculty Director Professor Hazel Sive, has been joined by members from Africa, Asia, Australia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. J-WEL was co-founded in 2017 by Community Jameel, the social enterprise organisation, and MIT.
Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs at UOS, was joined by Professor Hazel Sive, Faculty Director for Higher Education @ J-WEL in the signing ceremony.
