2 May 2023
Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA

The Jameel Clinic at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) announced today the election of Professor Dina Katabi to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of the United States.

Established by the United States Congress and President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, the NAS elects members in recognition of outstanding and original contributions to research. Members of the NAS are tasked with providing independent, objective advice to the nation on matters relating to science and technology.

A principal investigator at the MIT Jameel Clinic, Dina has been at the forefront of groundbreaking research in artificial intelligence (AI) and healthcare. Among her research has been the development of Emerald, a device that uses an artificial intelligence model that can detect Parkinson’s just from reading a person’s breathing patterns.

Dina’s nomination comes as a significant and well-earned recognition of her outstanding research, which has had significant contributions to her field and the scientific community.
