Why British children lag behind peers in height league table

Majid Ezzati, research lead at Jameel Institute, comments on findings that British children are lagging globally in height, saying, “nutritious foods that improve height without excessive weight gain — like unsweetened milk and dairy, legumes, fish, lean meat, fruit — are beyond many people’s means. What is needed to improve the UK’s standing, and all the benefits that come with better growth and development, is policies to make nutritious foods more affordable and accessible to everyone, like vouchers for nutritious items, good availability in every community and high-quality free school meals.”
