From paralympian to water security specialist: Meet the 2024 class of Young Global Leaders

Anna Schrimpf is the executive director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) Europe based at the Paris School of Economics. Anna provides technical, strategic and administrative direction to J-PAL’s research, policy and training engagements to alleviate poverty across Europe. Anna first joined J-PAL at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2016 as a post-doctoral associate. Prior to becoming executive director of J-PAL Europe in September 2018, Anna was associate director of the education sector at J-PAL, where she worked with practitioners, policymakers and universities to implement rigorous academic training in development economics, data analysis and the design and management of randomised evaluations available worldwide. She also headed the development and implementation of the MicroMasters programme in data, economic and development policy and the blended master’s programme at MIT’s department of economics.
A specialist in political science and developing global education access, Anna has supported the work of non-governmental organisations, think-tanks and government agencies in the United States and Europe. Anna is also an active researcher and currently a co-principal investigator on a large childhood immunisation study conducted by J-PAL South Asia.
Anna holds a degree in philosophy, politics and economics from the University of Oxford and a doctorate in political science from Princeton University.
