Bocelli-Jameel Scholarship
Clara Barbier Serrano is a soprano from France and the inaugural recipient of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation x Community Jameel scholarship at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London, where she graduated from the world-renowned Opera Studio in 2022.
Now studying at the Conservatoire de Paris while performing internationally, Clara began playing the violin and singing choral music at the age of six. In 2016, she embarked on her bachelor studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig, where she developed a rich and diversified song repertoire, performing numerous solo soprano parts in concerts in the Netherlands and Germany. Clara appeared on the opera stage in La Petite Bande Summer Academy in Italy in 2015 and 2017, at the Klassik für Kinder festival in Leipzig, and the Verbier Festival Academy 2019.
In 2020, Clara became the first recipient of the Bocelli-Jameel scholarship which was launched by Community Jameel and the Andrea Bocelli Foundation in partnership with RCM to remove financial barriers for gifted singers from around the world to study full-time at the world-renowned RCM Opera Studio.
Since receiving the scholarship, Clara has given numerous solo and ensemble performances at concerts, festivals and productions internationally. She has performed alongside Andrea Bocelli on multiple occasions, including at the ‘Believe in Christmas’ virtual concert from the Teatro Regio di Parma opera house in 2020 and at the award-winning concert venue Maraya, AlUla and Hayy Jameel, Jeddah in 2022. More recently, Clara curated and performed with Ensemble Matters in a production of ‘Pierrot XXI’, an alternative take on Arnold Schöneberg’s 'Pierrot lunaire' and co-produced by Community Jameel, at the Bloomsbury Festival in October 2022. Further performances include a recital at Life Victoria Festival in Barcelona with Joanna Kacperek and a performance of Claude Debussy’s 'Air de la damoiselle élue' at the Académie Jaroussky concert with Ninon Hannecart-Ségal.
