Evelyn Wang

Evelyn Wang is a long-time collaborator in the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she was awarded seed funding as a principal investigator in 2017 and 2021. She is also head of the department of mechanical engineering at MIT.

Evelyn's research focuses on thermal management, solar thermal energy conversion and water harvesting. Her J-WAFS-funded projects include 'Hybrid evaporative and radiative cooling as a passive low-cost high-performance solution for food shelf-life extension' and 'Distributed water harvesting from air in water-stressed and remote areas using metal-organic frameworks'.

Evelyn was the recipient of the 2016 ASME Electronics Packaging and Photonics Division Women of the Year Award and the ASME Bergles-Rohsenow Young Investigator Award. In 2022, she was elected by US President Biden to be the director of the department of energy’s 'Advanced research projects agency-energy' to support critical energy research.

Evelyn received a bachelor's of science degree in mechanical engineering from MIT followed by a master's and PhD from Stanford University.
