Greg Sixt is the director of the Food and Climate Systems Transformation (FACT) Alliance, a global network of leading institutions and stakeholder organisations working to shorten the link between research and action, led by Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is also a research manager for climate and food systems on various J-WAFS projects and is co-project lead alongside Kenneth Strzepek of the Jameel Index for Food Trade and Vulnerability (Jameel Index), a new research initiative which assesses food security implications of climate change on food imports of key commodities, hosted at J-WAFS for FACT Alliance.
Greg is an expert on agricultural knowledge and innovation systems, water governance, food systems transformation and the climate-food systems nexus. Prior to his work at J-WAFS, Greg worked at the US Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) in the Institute of Bioenergy, Climate and Environment and the Centre for International Programmes.
He has previously consulted for numerous organisations including Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), World Resources Institute (WRI), United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on issues spanning agricultural innovation systems, climate change adaptation in agriculture and water management, water-energy and food-water-energy nexus governance and foreign aid investment.
Greg took a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Vermont, a master’s degree in environmental science and policy from Clark University and a PhD in agriculture, food and environmental and water diplomacy from The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.
