Wenzhe Jiao

Wenzhe Jiao was a 2022 postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he was a member of the César Terrer lab. César is a 2022 Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) principal investigator.

Wenzhe's research focuses on how to better understand the impacts of droughts on our ecosystem, and how to better prepare for and monitor drought impacts. Under his postdoctoral advisor, César Terrer, Wenzhe's research uses multiple sources of remote sensing observations, flux tower nets and climate modelling to study spatial and temporal patterns of water availability, how vegetation adapts to and affects such patterns and how climate/land use changes affect vegetation-water-carbon interactions. During his time at the Terrer lab, he worked closely with César on a 2022 J-WAFS Seed Grant-funded project, 'High-resolution plant water stress monitoring' which is developing a monitoring system for farmers using remote-sensing data.

Wenzhe's postdoctoral appointment at MIT came to an end in August 2023. He holds a bachelor's degree in surveying and mapping from North China Institute of Science and Technology, a PhD from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and a PhD in applied earth sciences at Indiana University.
