Few countries are on track to meet their targets to address climate change, according to a new UN report. Where governments around the world are falling behind, however, individual innovators are trying to fill the breach. These innovators include Jongyoon Han and Junghyo Yoon, researchers associated with the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) at MIT who developed a new portable desalination method that is easy to maintain and requires no additional chemicals, filters or skilled operators—delivering safe drinking water at the push of a button. Jongyoon and Junghyo's invention and spin-out company, NONA Technologies, developed from research funded by the J-WAFS Solutions Grant, which they received in 2021.
