Shrooq Alsenan was a 2022-2023 research fellow at the MIT Jameel Clinic—the first Saudi national to receive this fellowship. She is an assistant professor of information systems sciences at Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University, where sh was a co-founder member of the the College of Computer and Information Sciences (CCIS) research centre. Shrooq also holds a postdoctoral fellowship at the Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) at MIT, supported by the MIT-KACST Ibn Khaldun Fellowship Program for Saudi Women.
Dr Shrooq’s research interests focus on machine learning, data visualisation and data analytics in healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Her doctoral research investigated artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms in the area of chrome-informatics, where she proposed effective in silico quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) models to predict molecular compounds’ permeability to the central nervous system.
Since 2021, Shrooq has been part of multiple research projects with the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia to address artificial intelligence-related multidisciplinary research topics in her capacity as a senior member of multiple research labs in Saudi Arabia, including the automated systems and soft computing lab, the advanced operations research group at Prince Sultan University and the artificial intelligence centre of excellence at Alfaisal University.
Dr Shrooq received a PhD and an MSc from King Saud University, where she was awarded the first-place distinction for her PhD dissertation at the annual awards ceremony for excellence in scientific research from the CCIS. She was awarded funding from the research chair of healthcare innovation at King Saud University for 2020.
