In an article for Japan’s Biz Nova, Morinobu Endo and Kenji Takeuchi from Shinshu University discuss the trial of a new water purifying device in West Bengal, India, in collaboration with Community Jameel.
Endo and Takeuchi noted the diverse potential applications of the device, which is powered by a hand pump and uses a reverse osmosis (RO) membrane: “The ultra-low pressure high water permeability robust RO membrane and module have attracted interest from various sectors, and joint development with domestic and international companies and research institutions is being promoted.
“In addition, RO membranes for seawater desalination, semiconductor and industrial water reuse and other applications are also being developed."
