The Jameel House ofTraditional Arts in Cairo has opened its call for applications for the 2024 intake of its two-year diploma programme.
During the two-year programme, students at the Jameel House specialise in ceramics, glass, gypsum, metalwork and woodwork, and study a range of modules including traditional Islamic geometry, drawing, colour harmony and arabesque studies.
Upon completing their studies, graduates of the Jameel House diploma programme will receive a foundation certificate awarded by The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts and will have developed a deep understanding of the principles and practical applications of traditional arts, allowing them to pursue career opportunities across multiple fields including the arts, heritage conservation, architectural preservation and creative industries.
Interested applicants should submit a completed application form and their portfolio in person at the Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo, located at the Fustat Centre for Traditional Arts, Sundays to Thursdays from 10h00 to 15h00. The deadline for applications is 24 August 2024. Applicants selected to move to the next round of the process will be required to complete an entry exam and an interview.
About the Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo
Launched in 2009 by Community Jameel, The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts and the Cultural Development Fund of Egypt, the Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo is a major educational institute teaching young Egyptians classes in traditional Islamic geometry, drawing, colour harmony and arabesque studies, as well as specialised training in ceramics, glass and gypsum, metalwork and woodwork. At the Jameel House in Cairo, students are taught a two-year diploma programme, developed and delivered by The King's Foundation School according to the same principles and standards as the postgraduate courses of the school’s London campus.
Located in the heart of the historic district of Old Cairo, at the Fustat Centre for Traditional Arts and Crafts, the Jameel House programme focuses on the preservation of local cultural heritage, including through field trips to major monuments and practical design and make projects. The Jameel House in Cairo also supports graduates seeking employment or establishing businesses in the traditional arts. Around 20 students graduate each year and join the many alumni who connect through the programme’s alumni club and participate in the annual alumni exhibition.
