The Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo today opens the call for applications to the next intake of its flagship two-year programme. There are around 20 places available on the course.
Successful applicants will study geometry, drawing, colour harmony and arabesque studies and receive practical training in ceramics, glass and gypsum, metalwork and woodwork.
Opening in 2009, the Jameel House in Cairo was founded by Community Jameel, The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts (KFSTA) and Egypt’s Cultural Development Fund.
The two-year programme is developed and delivered by the KFSTA according to the same principles and standards as the postgraduate courses at its London campus.
Located in Fustat, in the heart of the historic district of Old Cairo, the Jameel House in Cairo programme focuses on the preservation of local cultural heritage.
Around 20 students graduate each year and join the many alumni who connect through the programme’s alumni club and participate in the annual alumni fair.
With a deep understanding of the principles and practical applications of traditional arts, graduates pursue careers ranging from artistic practice and the creative industries to heritage conservation and architectural preservation.
The programme is open to all, aged 18 or above, and no prior qualifications are required.
Students attend the programme on a scholarship, with no fees for tuition or materials required.
Selection of candidates is through a competitive process.
Interested applicants should submit a completed application form and a portfolio in person to the Jameel House in Cairo, located at the Fustat Traditional Crafts Centre, from Sunday to Thursday, between 10h00 and 15h00.
The deadline for applications is 24 August 2025.
Applicants selected to move to the next round of the process will be required to complete an entry exam and an interview.
