Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Egypt's Cultural Development Fund, the Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo is holding its first exhibition sale of art projects made by Jameel House students. The exhibition sale is held in cooperation with The Prince's Foundation School of Traditional Arts from 19-31 July between 12h00 and 18h00, except for weekends, and features handmade works inspired by traditional Islamic arts, using natural materials such as wood, copper, porcelain and gypsum.
Established in 2009 as a collaborative project between Community Jameel, The Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, and Egypt’s Cultural Development Fund, the Jameel House has established itself as an educational institution aiming to preserve enduring crafts and practices. Approximately 20 students per year undertake a two-year diploma developed and delivered by The Prince’s Foundation School according to the same principles and standards as the courses at the London campus. The diploma teaches Islamic crafts and arts techniques such as geometry, drawing, colour harmony and arabesque studies, as well as specialised training in ceramics, glass and gypsum, metalwork and woodwork.
