In a recent article following the United States (US) Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action in college admissions, which ends 40 years of race-conscious admissions practices, Anjali Sastry, faculty director of the Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), emphasises the purpose and aim of the research centre. Namely, to open the doors of MIT to the world and reach millions of learners through work with educators and leaders around the globe.
Through online and in-person collaborations, workshops, research and information-sharing events, J-WEL aims to provide the opportunity to learn, share ideas and experiences, and gain knowledge on how to deliver greater impact in the field of education with a global and diverse community of learners. J-WEL's mission is evermore critical, she writes, in light of the Supreme Court's ruling on affirmative action in college admissions. J-WEL's platform reflects the spirit of MIT's commitment to diversity–enabling collaboration and establishment of relationships among people from all over the world.
