Lung cancer kills more people worldwide than the three most deadliest cancers combined. This is largely due to the fact it is hard to detect the disease at an early stage. Now researchers at the MIT Jameel Clinic, the epicentre of machine learning and health at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Mass General Hospital have developed an artificial intelligence tool called Sybil, which can detect lung nodules on computerised tomograph (CT) scans and predict the risk of a patient developing a future lung cancer up to six years in advance.
