When, Professor Regina Barzilay, AI faculty lead at the MIT Jameel Clinic was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014, she began asking, why her cancer could not have been diagnosed earlier. Regina and fellow researchers at the MIT Jameel Clinic, the epicentre of AI and healthcare at MIT, developed an AI-based system for early detection of breast cancer called Mirai. The non-invasive technology has the potential has the ability to detect breast cancer up to five years in advance.
