A team of researchers at the Abdul Latif Jameel Clinic, the epicentre of AI and healthcare at MIT, have developed is a new AI tool called Sybil that can detect lung cancer risk up to years in advance. Much like the Greek oracles its named after, Sybil's job is to see into the future and has the potential to detect lung cancer—the leading cause of cancer death in the United States—years before doctors or radiologists can. According to Regina Barzilay, AI faculty lead at MIT Jameel Clinic and a researcher on the Sybil project, 'AI in health care is one of the most under-utilised areas of applications of AI'.
