Yale’s Tobin Centre for Economic Policy convened with researchers and state officials to enhance Connecticut’s Medicaid programme. The meeting marked the beginning of a partnership between the State of Connecticut, the Tobin Centre and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at MIT to harness evidence-based social science research to improve the local public health system. Specifically, they explored the potential to improve the Medicaid programme through randomised-controlled trials (RCTs), a methodology spearheaded by J-PAL, which uses prospective studies to measure the effectiveness of policy interventions.
