At the height of the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact, the co-founder and co-director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) and winner of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics, Esther Duflo, hosted a two-day symposium to mark the 20th year of J-PAL's fight to alleviate global poverty at the Collège de France in Paris. Esther took the opportunity to call for an overhaul of social policy and international solidarity, made necessary by the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and global warming which have pushed millions of people into poverty in low-income countries. Her principle, implemented by J-PAL, is to evaluate public policies using quantitative methods and field experience to encourage evidence-based policy decisions.
