Developed on the basis of the findings of a study by researchers at the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), the ‘Urgent relief and just action' (Urja) desk concept was implemented in local police stations in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh in 2017 to increase registration of cases of gender-based violence. Since its establishment, the initiative has provided ample space for women victims of violence to share their issues with the police, according to participants at a three-day conference on 'Justice, inclusion and victims' access' held in Bhopal, India.
