To mark the 20th anniversary of its fight against poverty, the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) in collaboration with Community Jameel, organised a two-day symposium at the Collège de France in Paris. The event, titled 'Science and Fighting Poverty: How far we've come in 20 years and what's next?', convened the Nobel-prize winning co-founders and directors of J-PAL, Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee, along with researchers, policy makers, social work pioneers, financiers and the general public to discuss the role of scientific research in shaping development and social policy to alleviate poverty in different settings and contexts. Sessions included those focused on J-PAL's efforts in Europe, notably its initiatives in France and Spain, as well as a session shared by director of Community Jameel, George Richards, on its work across the continent through the European Social Inclusion Initiative.
